In a stunning development following the devastating defeat of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in the Bihar Assembly elections, Rohini Acharya, daughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, has announced her decision to quit politics and distance herself from her family, triggering fresh turmoil within the high-profile political dynasty.
Rohini Acharya made the startling declaration in an ambiguous post on the social media platform ‘X’, hinting that the decision was influenced by pressure from senior RJD leaders, specifically naming Sanjay Yadav and Ramiz. She wrote: “I am leaving politics and distancing myself from my family. This was requested by Sanjay Yadav and Ramiz, and I am taking all the blame upon myself.” The precise issue for which she is assuming blame—whether the electoral defeat or a deeper internal conflict—remains unclear.
The announcement comes at a time when the Yadav family is already grappling with severe internal strife. Lalu Yadav’s elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, was recently expelled from the party and founded a new faction that failed to secure any seats. Rohini, known for donating her kidney to her father in 2022, had previously shown her dissatisfaction with internal party policies, including unfollowing family members on social media in September.
The election results were catastrophic for the RJD, which was limited to just 25 seats in the 243-member assembly, while the NDA coalition secured a massive majority with 202 seats. Rohini Acharya’s sudden and dramatic step is expected to intensify the political and familial instability facing the RJD during this difficult period.
