US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism that Saudi Arabia will soon join the Abraham Accords, the series of normalization agreements aimed at fostering regional cooperation in the Middle East. President Trump made these comments while addressing reporters aboard Air Force One.
In response to questions regarding his upcoming meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince, President Trump confirmed the engagement, describing the scheduled talks as “more than just a meeting.” He clarified that the Abraham Accords would be a critical component of these discussions, signaling the potential for a major shift in the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East should Saudi Arabia move towards normalization.
Focusing on defense cooperation, the US President indicated the expectation of a significant arms deal. He confirmed that Saudi Arabia is keen to acquire a substantial number of aircraft, including the advanced F-35 fighter jets, from the United States.
“Saudi Arabia wants to buy many planes,” President Trump stated. “We make the best planes, we make the best missiles.” He added that a large-scale sale of fighter jets, including the F-35, is anticipated soon, emphasizing America’s role as the premier supplier of defense technology in the region.
