The government of Pakistan has announced a significant revision in the prices of petroleum products, notably increasing the cost of diesel, which is expected to amplify the burden on the country’s transport and agricultural sectors. The Ministry of Finance issued a formal notification detailing the new price structure.
Effective immediately, the price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs. 6 per liter. Following this hike, the new retail price for diesel has been set at Rs. $284.44$ per liter. The increase in diesel cost typically leads to higher transportation expenses, which often translate into broader inflationary pressure across the economy.
Conversely, the Finance Ministry opted to maintain the existing price of petrol. The price of petrol remains unchanged at Rs. $265.45$ per liter. This fortnightly adjustment reflects the dynamics of international crude oil prices coupled with the government’s fiscal policy decisions regarding taxes and duties on petroleum products.
