SRINAGAR, OCCUPIED KASHMIR:
A significant security incident has taken place in Srinagar, the capital of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, where a powerful explosion inside the Nowgam Police Station compound resulted in injuries to 8 individuals. The event immediately raises serious concerns over the safety protocols for storing confiscated hazardous materials in the volatile region.
Indian media reports indicate that the blast occurred when a stash of confiscated Ammonium Nitrate unexpectedly detonated. The explosion happened at a critical moment when police personnel and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team were inside the station conducting an inspection of the materials. The presence of the FSL team suggests they were directly exposed to the danger while performing safety checks.
The force of the explosion was considerable, causing multiple vehicles parked within the police station premises to be severely damaged. Fire tenders were rushed to the scene immediately following the blast, and area roads were temporarily sealed off to facilitate rescue operations and protect the public.
This incident highlights vulnerabilities in the procedure for handling and storing sensitive explosive materials in the occupied territories. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the precise nature and cause of the explosion. The injured personnel have been swiftly transported to a hospital for medical treatment, with officials prioritizing their recovery.
