MUZAFFARABAD, AZAD KASHMIR:
The political landscape of Azad Jammu and Kashmir is set to undergo a decisive shift as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Chaudhry Lateef Akbar, has summoned a crucial session for November 17 to hold a vote on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwaar ul Haq. This constitutional procedure is expected to pave the way for a change in leadership and a new political alignment in the region.
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) formally submitted the no-confidence motion to the Assembly Secretariat today. According to the constitutional rules of AJK, if a motion of no-confidence is successful, and if a successor prime minister is named at the time of the motion’s submission, that nominated individual is automatically elected as the new Prime Minister.
The PPP has put forward the name of senior leader Faisal Mumtaz Rathore for the position of Prime Minister, a nominee who enjoys the full confidence of Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. This means that if the majority of the Assembly members vote in favour of the no-confidence motion on November 17, Chaudhry Anwaar ul Haq’s government will be dissolved, and Faisal Rathore will effectively become the new Prime Minister unopposed.
This political flux in AJK signals the desire of political parties for a new arrangement aimed at effective governance and addressing the concerns of the populace. The upcoming session is pivotal not only for the Assembly but for the entire political future of the region, with all eyes focused on the outcome of the November 17 vote.
