Senior Pakistani actress Salma Hassan has made a poignant revelation, sharing that the escalating disputes with her ex-husband, actor Azfar Ali, severely impacted their young daughter’s emotional and mental health. The actress spoke candidly about this challenging period of her personal life during a recent private television program.
Salma Hassan disclosed that the conflicts between her and Azfar began when their daughter, Fatima, was just eight months to one year old. These continuous disputes started to manifest in psychological effects on Fatima, who displayed highly unusual behavior.
Recounting the distressing situation, the actress described the severity of her daughter’s reaction:
“My daughter started displaying so much anger that she would lie on the floor in a rage and stiffen her body so much that I couldn’t pick her up, even if I wanted to. She would then start holding her breath.”
After dealing with the situation for seven to eight months, Salma sought help from psychologists. She was informed that the root problem was not Fatima’s but her own emotional state affecting her child. Although Salma initially resisted this diagnosis, she eventually realized the truth when the situation became unmanageable. She shared that only after she began receiving therapy herself did the household stability and their daughter’s health begin to improve.
Salma Hassan and Azfar Ali were married in 2001 and divorced in 2012. Azfar Ali later married actress Naveen Waqar in the same year. Salma Hassan’s admission serves as a powerful call for awareness regarding the devastating impact of parental conflict on children’s mental well-being in the region.
