Senior Pakistani showbiz figure, actress Simi Raheel, has delivered a remarkably blunt and critical assessment of the Pakistani award show industry, dismissing them as “fake” and inherently lacking merit.
Appearing as a guest on a private TV channel program, the actress offered a decisive opinion on award ceremonies, stating she didn’t want to comment because there was “nothing to say.” She characterized the awards as “fake,” claiming they are given out purely on the basis of bias rather than genuine talent or merit.
In a powerful analogy criticizing the self-serving nature of the ceremonies, Simi Raheel remarked:
“Everyone has made their own ‘one-and-a-half-inch mosque,’ and they honour their own people. That is why they seem fake to me; those without genuine capability are still awarded.”
She asserted that every channel has created its own set of awards, leading to rampant bias where true merit is ignored, and deserving artists are not given justice.
Commenting on the voting process itself, the senior actress posed a major rhetorical question: “If Pakistan, as a country, does not give honest results in its own elections, then how can the voting in award shows be credible?” She extended her skepticism globally, noting that when even a developed country like America has issues with its voting process, the results of these award shows are certainly not genuine. Her statement serves as a bold critique of the lack of transparency and meritocracy within the Pakistani entertainment industry.
