The British High Commission in Islamabad hosted a magnificent event to commemorate the birthday of Britain’s monarch, King Charles III. The occasion was graced by the presence of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who joined British High Commissioner Jane Marriott in welcoming the distinguished guests, underscoring the warmth of diplomatic ties.
The British High Commission highlighted the current year as pivotal for the relationship between Pakistan and the UK, citing several major achievements in bilateral cooperation. A key development was the resumption of Pakistan’s national airline flight to Manchester after a five-year air safety ban was lifted, easing travel for thousands. Furthermore, the UK introduced an e-visa facility for Pakistani students and workers, streamlining mobility.
Economically, 2025 proved historic as bilateral trade soared to £5.5 billion, crossing the £5 billion mark for the first time. The UK also maintained its commitment to supporting Pakistan in the rehabilitation of flood-affected communities, while the UK-Pakistan Trade Dialogue spurred new opportunities in the services and innovation sectors.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott emphasized that all four nations of the UK—England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland—play a vital role in nurturing ties with Pakistan. The evening celebrated this bond through cultural performances, featuring the unique sounds of the Pakistani Military Band’s Big Pipers and the vocals of singer Maria Unera.
