In response to escalating security challenges and uncertainty across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the provincial government is convening a crucial Peace Jirga (Grand Council) today at the KP Assembly Hall. This gathering is a significant effort aimed at bringing together all political and tribal forces onto a single platform to forge a consensus on restoring lasting peace in the region.
The Jirga will be jointly hosted by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Speaker Babar Saleem Swati. Signifying the seriousness of this initiative, a parliamentary delegation from the ruling PTI party formally extended an invitation to the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, to participate. The delegation stressed their commitment to working collectively for the province’s progress and prosperity.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi welcomed the Peace Jirga as a positive and necessary step. He emphasized that the current security climate urgently demands that all stakeholders set aside political differences and work through collective efforts to ensure stability.
Key political entities, including Jamaat-e-Islami, have also announced their participation, highlighting a broad consensus among parties regarding the gravity of the province’s security situation. This Jirga is expected not only to discuss security issues but also to test the level of unity among political leaders in formulating an effective, long-term strategy for enduring peace.
