The fragile ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, implemented just last month, continues to be severely undermined by persistent Israeli military operations. In a fresh act of violence, an Israeli drone strike in Khan Younis, a city in southern Gaza, has resulted in the death of two Palestinians, including a young child, further fueling instability and despair in the besieged territory.
According to reports from Arab media, the continuous Israeli actions defy the very terms of the ceasefire agreement. The tragedy unfolds as international efforts to cement a lasting peace remain elusive, leaving civilians vulnerable to ongoing hostilities.
Hamas, the Palestinian faction, issued a strongly worded statement expressing grave concerns over the situation. They accuse the Israeli military of carrying out daily attacks since the ceasefire took effect. The statistics shared by Hamas paint a grim picture: since October 10, a devastating 271 Palestinian civilians have been killed, with over 600 sustaining injuries due to these sustained assaults. The organization specifically highlighted that the strikes are targeting civilian areas and residential buildings, alleging that two-story structures are being sought out and hit, placing the lives of non-combatants in direct peril.
Furthermore, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is deepening due to Israel’s severe restrictions on aid supplies, an evident violation of the ceasefire terms. The agreement stipulated the daily entry of 600 aid trucks, including 50 fuel tankers; however, on Sunday, only 270 trucks were able to enter the strip. This clear breach of commitment is exacerbating the suffering of Gaza’s population, depriving them of crucial necessities.
In a related development, a senior Emirati official has announced that the United Arab Emirates has no intention of joining the Gaza Stabilization Force, potentially complicating future international efforts to manage and normalize the situation in the post-conflict period.
