Peshawar — Patients receiving treatment at the central Peshawar Burn Centre have reportedly been denied access to vital medical services under the provincial government’s Sehat Card program, forcing their attendants to cope with significant financial and emotional burdens.
Attendants’ Pleas for Help:
Attendants of the affected patients have complained that due to the unavailability of the Sehat Card facility, they are currently footing the bill for treatment out of their own pockets. They confirmed having to purchase expensive medications and pay for laboratory tests personally. The distressed families have urgently appealed to the provincial government for immediate intervention and financial assistance.
Management’s Stance and Future Plan:
The Burn Centre management provided a counter-statement, asserting that even during the temporary suspension, all patients are currently being offered free treatment.
The administration confirmed the suspension of the Sehat Card service but clarified that the facility will be reinstated starting December 1. However, a key caveat was added: even after restoration, plastic surgery services will not be available under the Sehat Card coverage.
The temporary halt of this crucial aid program at a vital health facility raises serious questions about the accessibility of public healthcare services for low- and middle-income segments of society.
