Karachi — Acclaimed Pakistani actor Adnan Shah Tipu recently disclosed that he once became so deeply immersed in a challenging and dark character that it began to affect his personal life and mental well-being. He revealed that observing his fellow industry veteran, Nauman Ijaz, became the means for his “return to reality” during that difficult period.
Appearing as a guest on a private TV show, Adnan Shah Tipu explained that to better portray any role, he conducts in-depth study, memorizes all dialogues, and mentally immerses himself completely in the character.
The Burden of the Dark Role:
He specifically cited a role where he portrayed the last person to be executed by hanging in Germany. For this role, he lost up to 25 kg and became so deeply absorbed that he began to feel hatred for the world.
Adnan Shah Tipu confessed: “I was so immersed that it became difficult to get out of it. I was unable to take on another project for three to four months.”
Nauman Ijaz’s Unintentional Aid:
While usually his wife and daughters help him detach from the psychological effects of such roles, this time, Nauman Ijaz came to his rescue. Adnan Shah Tipu shared that what helped him emerge from the character was observing Nauman Ijaz crying intensely in one scene, only to be seen laughing the very next moment.
This observation served as a profound lesson, helping him realize that he was an actor, not the character, enabling him to successfully shed the emotional weight of the role
