Karachi — Anzela Abbasi, the emerging actress and model in Pakistan’s showbiz industry and daughter of renowned actors Javeria Abbasi and Shamoon Abbasi, has spoken with unusual candour about her parents’ divorce, her mother’s subsequent struggles, and her complex relationship with her father.
Appearing on fellow actor Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast, Anzela Abbasi shared that when her parents divorced, her mother, Javeria Abbasi, was only 20 years old. Despite her young age, her mother took on the role of both mother and father seamlessly, ensuring Anzela never felt the absence of her father.
Mother’s Struggle and Realization:
Anzela described her mother’s intense struggles post-divorce, juggling work with managing the home. She admitted to being resentful and complaining as a child, but upon reaching the age of 23 or 24, she realized the immense sacrifices her mother had made, leading her to never complain again.
Independence and Paternal Relationship:
Discussing autonomy, Anzela shared her decision at age 22 to leave home, earn her own income, and become independent, a move that initially led to arguments with her mother. However, their relationship improved after she moved out, as her mother began to trust her, often bringing her food and spending quality time together.
Speaking about her father, Shamoon Abbasi, Anzela acknowledged him as a “very good actor” and credited him with teaching her the importance of “constantly working on one’s craft.” Yet, she revealed a significant change in her aspirations:
“When I was young, I wanted to be like him (an actor, director, producer, writer)… but now I don’t want to be like him.”
Anzela Abbasi married Tashfeen Ansari in August 2023, with pictures of her wedding being widely circulated.
