The globally renowned Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted at an early retirement from the sport, driven by a desire to dedicate more time to his personal life and family away from the football pitch. Ronaldo, one of the world’s highest-paid athletes, is currently playing for the Saudi club Al Nassr.
The 1000-Goal Challenge:
Ronaldo has so far scored a combined total of 952 goals at both the club and national levels. Last month, he stated that his objective was to complete 1,000 goals before retiring.
In an exclusive interview with famous British host Piers Morgan, the 40-year-old footballer articulated the human emotions behind his impending decision to step away from the game.
Reason for Retirement:
When asked about ‘early retirement,’ Cristiano Ronaldo admitted that the decision would be immensely difficult because “there is nothing like the joy you get from football,” but he acknowledged the reality of life.
“Everything has a beginning and an end. I want more time for myself, for my family, and for raising my children.”
Ronaldo revealed that he has been planning for life after football since he was 25 or 26 years old, indicating that he is mentally prepared to handle the immense pressure of stepping down.
He said there are many things in life he still wishes to experience, and though no joy matches football, he realizes that “it is necessary to leave at the right time.”
Family as the Priority:
Ronaldo stated emotionally: “I want to focus on raising my children and my personal life. I have spent my whole life traveling and playing football. Now is the time to be with my children and give time to my family.”
