Veteran Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon has revealed that she was initially offered the key role of ‘Kiran’ in the blockbuster film ‘Darr,’ a movie credited with elevating Shah Rukh Khan to superstardom. However, she decided to walk away from the project due to personal principles.
The film ‘Darr’ was released in 1993, co-starring Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol.
According to an Indian media report, the 53-year-old actress disclosed that after accepting the role and even filming a few scenes, she felt uncomfortable with the character:
“After doing some scenes, I did not feel comfortable in that role, so I left the film.”
Raveena Tandon also shared that she similarly turned down the 1991 film ‘Prem Qaidi,’ which eventually became Karisma Kapoor’s debut movie, citing the reason as some inappropriate scenes in the script.
The actress clarified that in her early career, she consciously avoided filming scenes involving physical intimacy or bold content. She stated that this was not a sign of arrogance but simply a preference to operate within her self-imposed boundaries.
Raveena Tandon concluded with a statement of self-assurance: “I built my film career on my own terms and conditions, and today I consider myself one of Bollywood’s successful actresses.” Her comments highlight the ethical and professional challenges female actors often navigate in the industry.
