Political activity is surging in Islamabad, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting with the central leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan today. The high-level session is anticipated to take place at the Prime Minister House between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
Sources indicate that the MQM delegation will comprise prominent figures, including Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Dr. Farooq Sattar, Kamran Tessori, Aminul Haque, and Jawed Hanif.
The primary focus of the discussion is expected to be the 27th Constitutional Amendment. According to sources, the Prime Minister will take the MQM into confidence regarding the core aspects of this amendment, with both parties engaging in a detailed conversation on its various clauses.
The MQM is set to push its key demands during the meeting, notably seeking constitutional protection for local governments and urging the implementation of points agreed upon in its prior accord with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). The MQM leadership is expected to exert pressure on the government to incorporate their specific concerns into the amendment to address their long-standing political and administrative reservations. This dialogue is considered pivotal for the stability of the federal government and the evolving political landscape in Karachi.
