Residents of Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, are facing significant air pollution today, as the metropolitan’s air quality has officially been recorded as “unhealthy.”
According to the latest data from the Air Quality Index (AQI), Karachi is currently ranked as the eighth most polluted city in the world.
The report indicates that the level of air pollution in the city has been measured at 164 particulate matter.
This reading is a cause for public health concern. According to the AQI’s classification, pollution levels ranging from 151 to 200 particulate matter are considered “unhealthy,” which can cause respiratory and other health issues, especially for sensitive groups.
For context, an AQI reading between 201 and 300 is classified as “very unhealthy,” while any level exceeding 301 particulate matter is deemed “hazardous.”
