Kane Williamson, the former captain and one of New Zealand’s most celebrated cricketers, has announced his retirement from the T20 International format.
The New Zealand Cricket Board confirmed the news on the social media platform ‘X’. According to the board’s statement, the star cricketer has decided to step away from the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies, choosing instead to “focus on the Test match series in December.”
Williamson retires as New Zealand’s second-highest run-scorer in T20 International history.
After making his T20I debut in 2011, the star batsman represented New Zealand in 93 matches. During his career, he scored 2,575 runs, including 18 half-centuries.
Under Williamson’s leadership, the New Zealand team achieved significant success in the T20 format, reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup twice and advancing to the final on one occasion.
