Veteran Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui has shared his views on the evolution of parenting, stating that unlike in his childhood, parents today cannot use physical force to discipline their children.
Speaking as a guest on a recent podcast, Siddiqui discussed the habits he tries to instill in his own children, which he learned from his father. “I want my children to sleep on time, and not eat junk food, or at least eat less of it,” he said.
Recalling his own upbringing, he explained the difference, “There was a time my father used to stop me from these things, and now I stop my children.” However, he noted a key distinction: “Our fathers didn’t just forbid us, they would also hit us. In our times, parents used to beat their children, but not today.”
Adnan Siddiqui explained this shift, saying, “Today, you cannot hit your children, and you shouldn’t, because today’s kids cannot tolerate it.”
He did offer a nuanced view on discipline, stating, “One or two slaps are fine for teaching, but you shouldn’t beat them.” He also highlighted the positive change in family dynamics, noting that the “distance” that once existed between parents and children is now gone, and he has learned that “it is more important to talk than to hit.”
