Young Pakistani fast bowler Salman Mirza delivered a match-winning performance against South Africa in the second T20I and followed it with an emotional press conference, dedicating his success to his mother.
“I dedicate today’s performance to my mother, whose prayers have helped me reach this point,” Mirza shared with the media after the game in Lahore.
The pacer, who emerged as the hero of the match, spoke about his professional mindset. “Whether I am in the playing XI or not, my effort is always to perform well,” he said. “And when that performance becomes a match-winning one, the joy doubles.”
Mirza emphasized that he focuses on executing the plans given by the coaches. He credited his extensive experience playing for the Lahore Qalandars at the same venue, stating that the “home conditions and home crowd” gave him a significant advantage and boosted his morale.
He also acknowledged the pressures of the game: “Yes, when a catch is dropped and then you get hit for a four or six, it’s natural to feel some pressure. But it is crucial to compose yourself and recover.”
In the match at Gaddafi Stadium, Pakistan defeated South Africa by 9 wickets. Chasing a target of 111 runs, Pakistan reached it for the loss of only one wicket. Salman Mirza was exceptional, taking 3 wickets for just 14 runs. Faheem Ashraf was the top wicket-taker with 4 wickets for 23 runs.
