KARACHI – A viral video clip showing top Pakistani actress Saba Qamar reacting with a shocked “Astaghfirullah” (God forbid) to the idea of moving to Karachi has ignited a fierce debate on social media, drawing a sharp response from veteran actress Javeria Saud.
Responding to the controversy (in a reply to actress Iffat Omar), Javeria Saud strongly defended the city. “Karachi isn’t dirty, people’s thinking is dirty, who say such things,” she stated.
“These are the same people who are calling their own country dirty. Whether it’s Karachi or any other city in Pakistan, every corner of our land is dear to us.”
The clip of Saba Qamar, who recently returned to television, quickly went viral, leading to criticism from some users.
However, the public reaction remains deeply divided. While some users disapproved of Saba’s comment, many others came to her defense, pointing to the city’s well-documented issues.
One user commented, “I was born in Karachi, but the city is genuinely becoming very dirty and unbearable.” Another wrote that Karachi residents “should stand up against their governance to get the city cleaned” instead of criticizing the actress.
Other users defended Saba Qamar’s right to an opinion, stating that everyone is free to like or dislike a city.
