TEHRAN – Iran has fiercely criticized the US decision to resume nuclear weapons testing, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi labeling the move as “irresponsible” and a direct threat to global stability.
In an official statement, Araghchi condemned the directive from US President Donald Trump. “The US decision to resume nuclear tests is irresponsible,” he said. “A mischievous country is resuming nuclear weapons tests.”
Escalating the rhetoric, the foreign minister added, “This mischievous, nuclear-armed country is a threat to world peace,” reflecting the deeply strained relations between the two nations.
The comments follow President Trump’s order to restart nuclear testing after a 33-year hiatus, arguing that the US must “immediately” begin testing to ensure it remains on “an equal footing” with other nuclear powers.
According to a British news agency, the Trump administration’s decision is understood to be a response to the growing nuclear programs of China and Russia, sparking renewed fears of a new global arms race.
