Indian ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital following a dangerous injury sustained during the third match against Australia.
The unfortunate incident occurred when Iyer took a spectacular catch to dismiss Alex Carey. In the process, he badly injured his left rib. While the injury may have initially seemed minor, reports later revealed he was suffering from internal bleeding, which required his immediate admission to the ICU.
According to sources, the 31-year-old’s condition is now stable and out of danger. However, doctors have described the injury as extremely serious, stating that it “could have been life-threatening.” He will be kept under close observation for a few more days to prevent any infection.
A full recovery is expected to take a week or more. The decision on his return to India will be made only after his health improves.
