In a significant show of support for a vital social cause, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced a special pink-themed jersey for the national team’s first T20I match against South Africa. This initiative is part of the “PINKtober” campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer.
According to the PCB, the national players will wear the pink jersey during the first T20I, scheduled for October 28 in Rawalpindi, to help spread awareness about the disease.
The support for this cause will extend beyond the players. Umpires, staff, and commentators will also participate by wearing pink ribbons to show their solidarity. Furthermore, the stumps used in the match will feature pink branding, and awareness messages will be displayed around the ground.
PCB CEO Sameer Ahmad Syed commented on the initiative, stating, “We are proud to use the popularity of cricket for social awareness. Timely diagnosis can save countless lives.”
This marks the first time the PCB has dedicated an international match to the breast cancer awareness campaign. Previously, “Pink Day” events were only held during the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The second and third T20I matches of the series will be played in Lahore on October 31 and November 1, followed by a three-match ODI series in Faisalabad from November 4 to 8.
