A courageous woman in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar foiled a robbery attempt, leading to the arrest of a previously convicted criminal, police confirmed.
The incident occurred on the night of October 25 near Pehlwan Goth, where an armed motorcyclist tried to rob a woman at gunpoint. As the suspect attempted to flee, the woman showed remarkable presence of mind and hit him with her car. Police, alerted by nearby residents, later arrested the injured suspect on Shahrah-e-Faisal.
Authorities identified the suspect as Muhammad Ali Hajano, a convicted felon who was once known for spreading fear in Karachi’s South District about 17 years ago.
Investigators revealed that Hajano had a long criminal history, including charges of robbery, sexual assault against more than 35 women, and the murder of a transgender person. He had previously served a 16-year prison sentence for murder.
Police officials stated that Hajano’s return to criminal activity highlights the weaknesses in the post-release monitoring system for former convicts. An inquiry has been launched to determine if he was involved in other recent crimes in the city.
