The student, from Faridabad, took his own life after being blackmailed with fabricated, explicit videos and images of his sisters that were created using AI.
According to Indian media reports, two unidentified suspects demanded Rs. 20,000 from the B.Com student. They threatened to share the fake, digitally-created content online if he failed to pay the money.
Authorities reported that the victim had been under “severe mental distress” due to continuous harassment over the last 10 days. A senior officer explained that it appears the student’s mobile phone was hacked, and the suspects then began threatening him via a messaging app.
The preliminary investigation suggests that, overwhelmed by the constant threats, the young man consumed poison in his room on Saturday evening. His family rushed him to a local hospital, but he tragically passed away during treatment.
Faridabad police are now investigating the case. They are analyzing the deceased’s phone records, chat history, and social media accounts to trace the blackmailers and determine how the fake AI-generated content was created and distributed.
