The earthquake, which struck on Tuesday, was centered in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir province, according to media reports. It was recorded at an extremely shallow depth of approximately 6 kilometers, which significantly intensified the shaking felt at the surface.
As a result of the intense tremors, several buildings have reportedly sustained damage. However, authorities stated that there were no immediate reports of any fatalities.
The quake’s impact was far-reaching, with strong tremors felt across major cities including Istanbul, Bursa, Manisa, and Izmir.
This event has heightened anxiety in the region, as it follows a similar 6.1 magnitude quake that hit the same area in August of this year. That earlier quake resulted in one death and dozens of injuries.
