The Israeli crackdown on Palestinian fishermen attempting to earn a livelihood off the coast of Gaza continues, with the latest incident involving the arrest of three fishermen by the Israeli navy.
Citing local sources, Arab media reported that the incident involved more than just detention. Before arresting the men, the Israeli navy destroyed their fishing boats and all their equipment, effectively crippling their means of income.
This arrest is part of a severe, long-standing ban Israel imposed on all fishing activities for Palestinians following October 7, 2023. This prohibition has made the ancient profession, a critical source of survival for thousands of Gazan families, nearly impossible to pursue.
According to reports, numerous fishermen have been killed since the ban was enforced. The Palestinian fishing community has long been a target of systematic actions by the Israeli navy, which routinely include live fire, arrests, and the confiscation or destruction of their boats.
