Football legend Lionel Messi has solidified his future in American soccer, signing a new contract with Inter Miami that will keep him with the club for an additional three years.
The club confirmed the news on its official X account, stating that Messi will continue his journey as a player with Miami.
The Argentine World Cup winner’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of the 2025 MLS season. This new deal, which foreign news agencies report was a formality agreed upon last month, secures his presence in the US league through the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The 38-year-old, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, has previously expressed his desire to finish his playing career at Inter Miami, though he has not specified a retirement date.
Messi’s impact on the league has been undeniable. He is the MLS top scorer this season with 29 goals, having led Inter Miami to a third-place finish in the Eastern Conference. The team is now preparing to face Nashville SC in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs starting Friday.
