Riyadh: The prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan, has been named the new Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia. This significant appointment was made by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
According to Saudi media, the decision came following a formal proposal submitted by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
In addition to this principal religious role, Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan has also been appointed as the head of the Council of Senior Scholars. Reflecting the importance of the position, the royal decree grants him a rank equivalent to that of a government minister.
This appointment follows the passing of the former Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, who had held the revered position for many years.
