Washington: A new public survey has revealed a significant finding regarding US foreign policy, showing that a clear majority of Americans (59%) are in favor of the United States recognizing a Palestinian state.
The survey, conducted by a British news agency and Ipsos, indicates that support for this move crosses political divides. A vast 80% of Democrats and a notable 41% of Republicans believe the US should recognize Palestinian statehood.
These findings are in direct conflict with the current policy of President Trump, who has refused to grant such recognition. The poll surfaces as several key US allies—including the UK, Canada, France, and Australia—have recently recognized Palestine, drawing a sharp reaction from Israel.
The survey also captured American public sentiment on the recent conflict, with 60% of respondents stating that Israel’s response in Gaza was “excessive.”
Regarding the recent truce, a ceasefire mediated by President Trump has raised hopes for peace. The survey found that 51% of Americans believe Trump deserves credit if the ceasefire holds. Following this truce, his foreign policy approval rating saw an increase from 33% to 38%.
