Veteran batter Sidra Amin expressed strong confidence in the Pakistan women’s team ahead of their major clash against Australia in the Women’s World Cup, calling the match a “significant challenge” for the Green Shirts.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Sidra confirmed that both the team and individual players remain laser-focused on performance against the tournament favourites.
“We have prepared a plan to take early wickets against Australia,” she revealed, acknowledging the importance of dismantling the powerful Australian batting lineup quickly.
Commenting on the pitch conditions, Sidra described the surface as “difficult for batting,” but noted that patience is the key to adaptation. “Once a batter spends some time at the crease, it becomes easier,” she explained. She added that the conditions were unique for them, saying, “I have never played on such a wicket in Asia,” comparing them instead to surfaces found in Australia.
As a senior member, Sidra embraces her leadership role in the batting order. “As a senior batter, I am the backbone of the team,” she stated. “The captain and coach trust me and assign responsibility.” She confirmed her aim to deliver a strong performance for the team once again.
Reflecting on her early dismissal in the previous match against Bangladesh, Sidra admitted she was “disappointed and disheartened.” She added philosophically, “You work hard and sometimes the effort pays off.”
Having played two matches, Sidra feels the team has now become familiar with the pitch and environmental conditions. While acknowledging Australia as a strong side and their “good” bowling attack, she stressed that confidence would be the crucial factor in achieving a positive result.
