HOLLYWOOD – Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman has filed for divorce from her husband, country music star Keith Urban, after nearly two decades of marriage. Kidman filed the papers on September 30, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the separation.
Reports suggest that a key factor in the breakdown of the 19-year marriage was a growing feeling by the actress that her now-estranged husband was not “supportive” of her demanding professional career.
A Divide Over Career Support
A source speaking to People Magazine indicated a stark contrast between Urban’s attitude and that of their two daughters, Sunday and Faith. The children “love seeing their mom work. They are very supportive of their mom,” the insider noted. However, the same sentiment does not extend to the country singer.
“It’s been the opposite,” the insider alleged, adding that at the start of the marriage, Urban “was used to her being supportive of his career.” But for a considerable period, “He’s not been as supportive as she hoped.”
Despite the growing disconnect, the source shared that the star was dedicated to preserving the relationship. “She didn’t want this. She has been fighting to save the marriage.”
Kidman’s Packed Schedule
The divorce filing comes amid an extremely busy period for Kidman professionally. She recently wrapped shooting the film Practical Magic 2. Her television commitments are also extensive, including four forthcoming series, one of which is reprising her role in the highly anticipated third season of Big Little Lies.
