The 19-year marriage between actress Nicole Kidman and country singer Keith Urban is officially coming to a close, but the separation is reportedly fraught with financial controversy. The 58-year-old actress is said to be “furious” over the terms of their prenuptial agreement which heavily favor the singer.
Radaronline.com reports that as part of the prenuptial deal signed before their 2006 wedding, Keith Urban is legally entitled to receive $17 million from Nicole Kidman.
The controversial clause in their prenuptial agreement stipulated that if the “Somebody Like You” hitmaker remains sober, he is entitled to receive $600,000 for every year of marriage.
Sources revealed to the outlet on Tuesday that Nicole is “consumed with anger” over the financial provision.
The Babygirl star, who publicly supported Urban throughout his struggles with addiction, now faces the bitter irony of potentially having to compensate him millions under the sobriety clause.
“Nicole feels the clause was slipped in to protect Keith, but in the end it protects his finances,” an insider disclosed. The confidant added: “She supported him through his addiction, and now she sees him benefiting from it. That has left her feeling deeply betrayed.”
Kidman and Urban, who married in 2006, share two daughters together. The financial revelations add a layer of complexity to the conclusion of one of Hollywood’s most high-profile unions.
