Veteran British presenter Eamonn Holmes delivered notably harsh and candid remarks about his own marriage while discussing the recent high-profile divorce of actress Nicole Kidman and singer Keith Urban. Holmes’s commentary comes just months after the end of his own long-term marriage.
The 65-year-old presenter interrupted co-host Ellie Costello after she expressed sadness over the celebrity couple’s separation, noting that Kidman and Urban had been together for nearly two decades and shared two children.
Holmes, whose marriage to Loose Women presenter Ruth Langsford ended in May 2024, quickly injected a blunt observation into the conversation: “None of us know (what went on).”
Holmes exclaimed, “The two of them could have despised each other and absolutely wanted to walk away from each other and we think it’s awful… We don’t know!”
Costello, who married this summer, remained unfazed, responding: “Well I think it’s sad when any marriage ends.”
Holmes retorted sharply, drawing a pointed contrast to his co-host’s optimism: “That’s because you’ve just started (your marriage). You haven’t got to the bitter and twisted part yet!”
The conversation took place as Kidman confirmed she had filed for divorce from Urban after 19 years together. PEOPLE magazine reported that the Oscar-winning actress “feels very betrayed” and was left “shocked and devastated” by the split.
Holmes and Langsford publicly announced their separation in May 2024, concluding 14 years of marriage and 27 years as a couple.
