London, United Kingdom
The high-profile American talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have reportedly completed a quiet relocation, making the United Kingdom their permanent residence.
According to RadarOnline.com, the couple acquired a sprawling 10,000-square-foot estate named Hiaven in the upscale Cotswolds region, reportedly purchased for $26 million.
Sources close to the couple have suggested that the relocation is more than a simple lifestyle upgrade, signalling a strategic move for DeGeneres’s career. An insider told the outlet, “The whole point of Ellen going to the U.K. was to let the dust settle on the bullying scandal.”
The source added: “Her goal has always been to make a comeback. She’s just been waiting for enough time to pass.”
For DeGeneres, the geographical shift represents both a personal retreat and a professional reset. During a July 20 Q&A with broadcaster Richard Bacon, she openly admitted to feeling restless: “I do like my chickens here, but I am a little bit bored.” She concluded: “I don’t know what I’m going to do yet — I’m going to pick it very carefully.”
A few days after making those remarks, the comedian signed with the major WME talent agency, a move widely seen as paving the way for her next project.
While the couple originally planned to split their time between the U.S. and England, DeGeneres ultimately cited a political motivation for the permanent move. “We were in the Cotswolds when Donald Trump’s presidency was announced,” DeGeneres recalled. “We were like, ‘We’re staying here. We’re not going back.’”
