Lahore, Pakistan:
The results of the 2025 Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) First Annual Examination, released by the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs), highlight a distinct shift in Pakistan’s educational landscape, marked by the academic ascendancy of female students and the overwhelming success of private institutions.
This year, female candidates once again outperformed their male peers across all academic streams, continuing a consistent pattern observed in recent years. This trend reaffirms the resilience and sustained academic strength of young women throughout the country.
The Private Sector’s Command
The breakdown of top academic achievements reveals a commanding lead by the private education sector. Of the 335 top positions announced across the nine Punjab boards and the Federal Board:
- 283 positions (84%) were secured by private institutions.
- Only 52 positions (16%) went to government and semi-government institutions.
Within the private sector, the Punjab Group of Colleges (PGC) emerged as the dominant force, securing 143 positions—more than half (51%) of the total private share. This performance underscores the growing and central role of private colleges in setting academic benchmarks and shaping educational outcomes in Pakistan.
Board Pass Rates
The overall results, declared on September 18, 2025, also showed significant variations in pass percentages across boards. The Federal Board led with an impressive 81.10% pass rate. Among the provincial boards, D.G. Khan (74.86%) and Faisalabad (73.71%) reported the highest success rates, while Rawalpindi recorded the lowest at 54.12%.
The 2025 HSSC results serve as a barometer for the nation’s education system, celebrating the determination of students while spotlighting the increasing influence of the private sector in achieving academic excellence.
