Actress and director Angelina Jolie has reportedly sparked a new feud with her estranged father, actor Jon Voight, following recent political comments she made at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain.
The Oscar winner, known for her stance on free speech, was asked about her fears as an artist and as an American. Jolie responded:
“It’s a very difficult question… I love my country, but I don’t at this time recognise my country.”
She added that “Anything, anywhere, that divides or, of course, limits personal expressions and freedoms and, from anyone, I think is very dangerous.”
A “Direct Challenge” to Voight
Sources claim Jolie’s remarks have caused intense tension with Voight, a staunch supporter of Donald Trump who was recently appointed as one of three “special ambassadors” to Hollywood.
- Political Betrayal: An insider told RadarOnline that “Jon feels Angelina has launched all-out war on everything he stands for politically.” He reportedly believes her comments were “a direct challenge to him and his role in MAGA Hollywood.”
- Undermining Values: A family source noted that Jolie has always been “left-leaning,” speaking out for refugees and against wars, which Voight sees as “undermining his values.”
- Embarrassment: Voight has reportedly told friends that Jolie is “embarrassing him on the global stage by siding with what he calls ‘radical liberals.'” The source concluded that their already “fragile relationship has been blown apart again.”
A Broader Warning
While Jolie’s comments followed the news of ABC pulling Jimmy Kimmel Live! after Kimmel mocked Donald Trump, insiders maintain that her statement was intended as a broader warning about the state of the U.S.
“She believes personal freedoms are under attack in America. To her, this is about more than Hollywood – it’s about protecting civil liberties. But Jon sees it as a betrayal,” the source said.
