WhatsApp, the complimentary application for messaging and video calls, is continuously introducing new functionalities for its users. It is currently developing a new capability that will allow individuals to directly embed their Facebook profile links within their WhatsApp profiles.
This particular feature is still under active development and was recently observed within the latest WhatsApp beta for Android, specifically version , available on the Google Play Store.
Upon receiving this update, users will gain the ability to connect their Facebook accounts. Once the connection is established, a small Facebook icon will be displayed next to the profile link on their WhatsApp profile. This integration will enable contacts to swiftly access an individual’s Facebook account while simultaneously making the WhatsApp profile appear more trustworthy.
Similar to the existing option for linking Instagram, adding Facebook will be optional. Users who prefer not to showcase their Facebook profile can simply choose to forgo utilizing the feature. For those who opt to include the link, there will also be an option to verify the account via the Accounts Center. Verified accounts will feature an official Facebook icon, whereas unverified ones will display only a plain link showing the full URL.
Verification is not a mandatory requirement. Even if users do not choose to verify, they can still display their Facebook link, and their WhatsApp account does not need to be permanently linked to the Accounts Center for this option to function. This ensures that users retain full control over their profile’s appearance and privacy settings.
This development signals WhatsApp’s broader intention to incorporate additional social media connections in the future. By facilitating links to platforms like Facebook and Instagram, WhatsApp aims to make profiles more transparent, reliable, and authentic. It is plausible that the platform may later allow links to other social platforms, potentially transforming WhatsApp into a centralized hub for verified online identity.
