Diplomatic sources confirmed on Friday that a ship carrying Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Iran’s Bandar Abbas port, destined for Yemen, has come under attack. According to these sources, the vessel’s captain and all 24 crew members are Pakistani nationals. Crucially, no casualties of the Pakistani crew have been reported in the incident.
Diplomatic sources further indicated that the ship is not currently located in an area under the control of the Yemeni government. They added that Pakistan is making every possible effort to ensure the safe return of its citizens on board.
In a video message, the crew reported that the ship was targeted in a drone attack at a Yemeni port 10 days ago. The vessel, loaded with LNG meant to be offloaded at the port, has remained stranded since the attack.
The ship’s captain has urgently requested immediate permission to sail to Djibouti. The crew stated they are awaiting assistance from Pakistan’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Director General of Ports.
They also claimed that Houthi fighters are present on the vessel and are preventing the Pakistani crew from disembarking.
