The trailer for A House of Dynamite reveals high tensions as military and government officials gather to discuss their response to a potential nuclear strike. Kathryn Bigelow, known for directing such thrillers, has returned to her craft after a hiatus. Starring Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba, the footage is packed with intense drama and rising stakes.
The film’s cast also includes Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Anthony Ramos, Tracy Letts, Greta Lee, Moses Ingram, Jonah Hauer-King, Jason Clarke, and Lily James. The supporting cast is equally strong, featuring Kaitlyn Dever, Kyle Allen, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Brittany O’Grady, and Gbenga Akinnagbe. Given Bigelow’s previous Academy Award win, her upcoming feature is expected to garner attention from the Oscars.
Early reactions to the film have been very positive. Time Magazine writes that it is “a movie with a seemingly endless number of moving parts, cut with diamond precision.” New York Magazine/Vulture notes, “This makes Bigelow’s ability to maintain suspense that much more impressive.” The Playlist describes the film as pinpointing “a terrifying tragedy lurking unspoken in today’s world order: whether citizens place their trust in people or procedures, neither can be counted on to prevent mass destruction.” Echoing previous reviews, the BBC opines that it is “more riveting than most thrillers, and more terrifying than most horror films.” A House of Dynamite will be released in select theaters on October 3, followed by a release on Netflix on October 24.
