WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to share their status updates with a select group of close friends instead of their entire contact list.
According to WABetaInfo, the platform has released a new Android beta update via the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the version to 2.25.25.11.
The update introduces enhanced privacy controls, making it simpler and quicker to manage who can view status updates. Much like Instagram’s “Close Friends” feature, WhatsApp aims to give users more control over their audience.
The redesigned interface, now accessible to some beta testers, appears within the drawing editor screen. At the bottom, users will see new audience selection chips that resemble filters in the Chats tab. These chips allow users to switch between privacy options like “My Contacts” and “Only Share With” without having to leave the current screen.
By selecting “Only Share With,” users can restrict their status visibility to a specific group of contacts already defined in their privacy settings. This simplifies status sharing and helps prevent oversharing, keeping personal updates within a trusted circle. This feature represents another step toward stronger privacy and more flexible sharing options on WhatsApp.
