Speaking at the Florida Supercon 2025 in Miami Beach, actor John Boyega candidly shared his personal vision for how he would have remade the Star Wars sequel trilogy in which he starred.
Boyega, who played the former Stormtrooper Finn in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker, said that if he had been a producer from the beginning, the films would have been “a whole completely different thing.” His key points included:
- Respecting the Original Characters: He would not have “gotten rid of” iconic characters like Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. Instead, he would have focused on fulfilling their stories and legacies, ensuring a more meaningful “handing on the baton” to the new generation of heroes.
- Character Development: In his vision, the new characters would not be “overpowered.” He emphasized that they would have to “struggle like every other character in this franchise,” rather than simply being able to “grab stuff and know what to do with it.”
- Expanding the Universe: Boyega expressed a desire to delve deeper into the Star Wars universe by exploring stories from the Old Republic and the Force Unleashed video games. He stressed that this expansion would be done while “respecting the lore” and staying true to the established boundaries of the franchise.
