The Day of the Jackal has been a major success for Sky and Peacock. However, reports now indicate that the series has undergone a significant change ahead of its second season. The change concerns the show’s writer. The series creator, Ronan Bennett, is stepping back from writing but will remain on as an executive producer.
Reports suggest the decision is due to his other professional commitments. Now, producer Carnival Films is bringing on David Harrower as the new writer. He previously created Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, which was a hit on both Sky and Peacock.
In a recent interview with Variety, the company’s CEO, Gareth Neame, stated that there are “lots of elements from [Forsyth’s] novel that we didn’t utilize in season one that would appear.” He added, “Hopefully it’s going to be another very lavish, slickly directed, well-acted, high-octane twist and turn thriller.” Meanwhile, shooting for season two is expected to begin in the coming months.
Starring Eddie Redmayne, The Day of the Jackal is based on Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 novel of the same name. A film adaptation was also made in 1973, which starred Edward Fox.
