Nashville-based singer-songwriter Brett James, 57, was one of three people killed in a plane crash in North Carolina on Thursday, September 18. According to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), there were no survivors when a single-engine Cirrus SR22T plane went down in a field. Flight records show that the plane had departed from John C. Tune Airport in Nashville.
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) confirmed the songwriter’s death, sharing a tribute on their Instagram. “Brett was a trusted collaborator to country’s greatest names, and a true advocate for his fellow songwriters,” the association wrote. “Brett, your ASCAP family misses you dearly. Thank you for your unforgettable music.”
Born on June 5, 1968, in Columbia, James was a highly successful songwriter in the 2000s and early 2010s. Throughout his career, he wrote songs for numerous renowned artists, including Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean, and Rascal Flatts.
