During a recent appearance on the SiriusXM podcast, Demi Lovato shared the memorable story of her fiancé Jutes’s surprise marriage proposal. The singer revealed that Jutes secretly learned to play the guitar just for the occasion.
“He did learn to play the song on guitar that he wrote, and it was so beautiful,” she said. The song, she explained, was about their shared journey and included “little Easter eggs” that made it incredibly personal and special. Lovato praised his thoughtfulness, calling him “the best.”
The 33-year-old singer admitted that the proposal was a complete surprise because they had previously discussed getting engaged and had seemingly decided to wait. “I don’t want to do it this year because I feel like it’ll get overshadowed by the holidays, so let’s just revisit next year,” Jutes had told her. Lovato recalled agreeing, saying, “Yeah, whatever. Take your time.”
“And then he proposed to me, and I was so shocked,” she concluded. “I normally… can sense when something’s coming, but I was so shocked about this.”
For those who don’t know, Demi Lovato and Jutes got engaged on December 16, 2023, and officially tied the knot on May 25, 2025.
