In response to numerous complaints regarding corruption and malpractices that were tarnishing the department’s reputation, the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) has immediately dismissed Sohail Ahmad, a rent collector in its Sargodha office. An official order stated that Mr. Ahmad has been directed to report to the board’s secretary for further instructions.
According to the ETPB order issued on Wednesday, the Assistant Commissioner of ETPB Sargodha has also been “directed to submit a detailed report of such cases and property matters wherein the said official committed illegalities and corrupt practices within a week so that disciplinary action is initiated against him.”
This action comes after a video post by senior PPP leader Nadeem Afzal Chan on his X (formerly Twitter) account. Chan had alleged that land belonging to a temple in Bhalwal had been illegally occupied at the behest of a top bureaucrat in the Maryam Nawaz administration. He further claimed that not only this temple land but also other ETPB properties in Bhera and Kot Momin (Sargodha) had been illegally seized by the bureaucrat’s nephews. The ETPB’s role in the matter has been questioned, as many are asking how illegal construction on the temple’s land was allowed to happen.
