In a rare interview, actress Julia Roberts has shared insights into her strict parenting style with her husband, Danny Moder. The 57-year-old star revealed in the inaugural issue of 72 Magazine, obtained by US Weekly, that she and Moder wanted their children to grow up with “values,” so they implemented firm rules.
“I think they were, for sure, some of the last kids in their peer groups to get phones and stuff like that,” Roberts said about limiting her children’s internet access. She explained that when their children were younger, she and Moder were “considered some of the stricter parents.”
“Not like we’re laying down the law, but these are the rules and they don’t change,” she detailed. “Here’s the boundary of your life and it does not shift.”
Roberts and Moder are parents to 20-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and 18-year-old son Henry.
The actress emphasized the importance of a unified front, revealing that the rules were set between her and her husband. “You don’t ask me and get an answer and then go ask dad and get a different answer,” she said. “That doesn’t happen. It will never happen.”
Roberts believes that this consistency creates a stable and secure environment for her children. “I think that is what creates the stability that then allows them to feel secure because you know there is this fixed world of love and safety that exists unconditionally,” she explained.
The Notting Hill star added that she and Moder are “definitely aligned in our core values and always have been,” which she believes is key to their parenting approach.
