Light rain and drizzle persisted in parts of Karachi on Thursday morning, despite the Met Department’s confirmation that the strong monsoon system has now exited the country.
Reports of Light Showers in Various Localities
Residents from several neighborhoods, including Faisal Street in PECHS, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Akhtar Colony, Defence, and Kala Pul, reported experiencing light to moderate rain since Thursday morning. The drizzle, which started early in the day, is anticipated to continue intermittently until the evening.
No New Monsoon System on the Horizon
Deputy Director of Meteorology, Anjum Nazir Zaigham, explained that cloud formation in Karachi is a result of high humidity levels, but he clarified that there is no possibility of a new monsoon system developing over Sindh, including Karachi, as the powerful monsoon system has already departed from Pakistan.
He added that from the end of this week, the province, including the port city, will experience hot and humid weather conditions. Light drizzle may still occur in Karachi during the early mornings for the next two days.
Current Weather Metrics
According to the Meteorological Department, Karachi’s current temperature is 28 degrees Celsius, with a recorded humidity level of 79%. The excessive moisture in the air is contributing to the development of clouds, which is causing the sporadic drizzles throughout the city.
