The European Union’s (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, conveyed condolences over the loss of lives caused by flooding in Pakistan during a phone call with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. According to details released on Tuesday, Kallas expressed solidarity with the affected families and communities, offering to cooperate in Pakistan’s ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Dar extended his gratitude to Kallas for the expression of solidarity and support. He also briefed her on the extent of the flood damage. Dar conveyed his satisfaction with the growing momentum in Pakistan–EU relations, and both officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in all shared areas of interest.
EU Pledges $350 Million in Emergency Aid
Separately, the EU has announced a package of $350 million in emergency assistance for those impacted by the recent floods in Pakistan. The aid is designated for providing drinking water, sanitation facilities, and cash support. As per the EU’s announcement, the monsoon floods have caused widespread damage across the country, resulting in many fatalities and leaving others missing.
The EU conveyed its sympathy to the families of the deceased and expressed solidarity with the people of Pakistan during this challenging time. The aid package is intended to address urgent needs and will be delivered through trusted partner organizations. Life-saving health services are also a part of this assistance.
Gates Foundation Commits $1 Million in Aid
According to information that became available on Wednesday, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, established by Microsoft founder Bill Gates, has committed $1 million in aid for flood victims in Pakistan. The foundation will provide this support via the World Health Organization (WHO), which will use the funds to deliver medical assistance to 465,000 affected individuals across 33 flood-stricken districts in all four provinces.
